Pink-Footed Goose
The Pink-Footed Goose is a wild northern goose species, Anser brachyrhynchus, rather than a normal domestic goose breed. It breeds in Arctic and subarctic regions such as Greenland, Iceland, and Svalbard and winters in parts of northwestern Europe. It is recognized by its compact body, dark head, short bill with pink markings, and pink feet, which give the species its common name.
Human involvement with Pink-Footed Geese usually concerns field research, reserve management, migration monitoring, hunting regulation, crop-conflict planning, and licensed captive-waterfowl care. Private ownership may be restricted, and the species should not be managed as if it were a barnyard goose. In permitted collections, it needs secure waterfowl facilities, appropriate diet, clean water, and attention to seasonal behavior. Records should separate it clearly from domestic goose breeds and hybrids.
