Pskov Bald Goose
The Pskov bald goose is a Russian regional goose associated with the Pskov area, where local domestic geese were selected for hardiness and household production. In old livestock naming, bald often points to a pale blaze, white head marking, or light facial pattern rather than a lack of feathers. The breed belongs in the broad family of northern gray and pied farm geese: practical, cold-tolerant, and shaped by smallholder management more than by a single show-ring color.
Because Pskov bald geese are not common in most international poultry circles, stewardship depends on careful identification and modest claims. Keepers should preserve breeding notes, source history, and photographs of head and body markings so the strain is not blurred into generic gray farm geese. They suit pasture-based homes with shelter from severe weather, protection during nesting, and enough flock space to let pairs settle without constant fighting.
