Romny Goose
The Romny goose is a Ukrainian domestic goose associated with the Romny area of the Sumy region and with older farm production systems of eastern Europe. It is usually discussed as a hardy meat and utility goose, with gray, white, or pied-type domestic coloring appearing in different lines. The breed belongs to a landscape of regional geese selected for survival, grazing, and household value rather than for highly specialized ornamental traits.
Romny geese are most meaningful when maintained as a named regional resource, so breeding groups should be kept distinct from other gray farm geese. Keepers should track parentage, mature size, hatchability, and survival under local conditions, especially if the flock is part of conservation work. They benefit from pasture, grain supplementation in harsh seasons, safe nesting areas, and enough water for normal preening, bathing, and social behavior.
