Shitou Goose
The Shitou goose, often translated as the lion-head goose, is a large Chinese domestic goose associated especially with southern China. It is noted for a strong body, prominent knob and head features, and value as a meat goose. Compared with lighter laying types, Shitou geese are usually discussed as substantial production birds, though size, color, and head development can vary by flock and local breeding goal.
Because of their size and assertive presence, Shitou geese need strong fencing, easy access to water, and enough room to avoid constant pressure on legs and joints. Breeding stock should be selected for mobility, fertility, and healthy head structure, not simply for the biggest knob or heaviest body. They are best suited to keepers prepared for large waterfowl, seasonal nesting behavior, and feed plans that support growth without allowing birds to become overly fat before breeding.
