Solnechnogorsk Goose
The Solnechnogorsk goose is a Russian domestic goose associated with the Solnechnogorsk area north of Moscow. It is usually treated as a regional production type, developed for farm usefulness in a climate with cold winters and a defined breeding season. The birds are best understood as sturdy meat and utility geese, with ordinary domestic colors possible depending on the line and source.
Management should emphasize the traits that make a northern farm goose valuable: sound legs, adequate body size, strong fertility, and the ability to thrive on pasture with seasonal feed support. Solnechnogorsk geese need dry winter shelter, clean water that can be managed in freezing weather, and secure breeding pens. Because the breed is not widely encountered outside its region, keepers should preserve source information and avoid using the name for any large gray or white Russian-looking goose without documentation.
