Synthetic Ukrainian Goose
Synthetic Ukrainian goose is best read as a composite or breeding-line label rather than the name of a long-established village breed. In poultry breeding, a synthetic line is created by crossing selected stocks and then mating within the new population to stabilize useful traits. Ukrainian goose programs have used local and imported domestic geese for meat, fertility, and hardiness, so birds sold under this wording may not share one uniform show standard. Plumage can be gray, white, saddleback, buff, pied, or diluted, depending on the parent lines involved.
In practice, the useful question is what that particular flock was selected to do: table growth, egg production, hatchability, pasture ability, or a balance of all four. Ask for source records and expected adult weights before buying breeding stock, because a synthetic line can vary more than a standardized breed. Care is the same as for other medium to large domestic geese: grazing, clean drinking and bathing water, secure night housing, and a ration adjusted for breeding season and winter. Selection for sound legs, good fertility, and calm flock behavior matters more than matching a rare color name.
