Tame Goose
Tame goose is a descriptive label, not a formal breed name. It can refer to any domestic goose that has been hand-reared, well socialized, or accustomed to people, including mixed farm geese, greylag-type European breeds, and Chinese-type birds. Appearance alone may not reveal much: a tame goose might be white, gray, saddleback, buff, knobbed, dewlapped, small, or heavy. The word describes handling history and behavior more than ancestry.
Even a friendly goose remains a flock bird with strong seasonal instincts. Ganders may guard mates or nests in spring, and single imprinted geese can become noisy or demanding if kept without suitable companions. For rescues and backyard homes, it is more useful to assess sex, age, health, wing condition, feet, and compatibility with the existing flock than to guess a breed. Regular gentle handling, safe fencing, grazing, clean water, and shelter from predators make daily care and veterinary work much easier.
