Vištinės Goose
The Vištinės goose is a Lithuanian domestic goose associated with the Vištytis area and with local farm production in the Baltic region. It is a heritage type shaped by cool weather, grazing, and household usefulness, usually valued for meat, eggs, and the preservation of regional livestock diversity. As with many landrace geese, appearance can include ordinary domestic goose colors, while the real identity rests in ancestry and local breeding history.
Vištinės geese need pasture-based management, clean water, dry shelter, and protection from predators during nesting and rearing. Conservation breeders should keep flocks separate, record mating groups, and select for hardy birds that reproduce reliably rather than only for a neat color pattern. Buyers should ask for source information and flock continuity. That matters because Baltic regional geese can be visually similar, and careful records are what keep a rare local breed from being absorbed into general farm stock.
