Whet Goose
The Whet goose is a thinly documented domestic goose label, so it should be handled as an uncertain or local breed name unless a specific source explains the strain. It may represent a farm population, translation variant, or catalog entry rather than a widely standardized goose. In cases like this, color lists are less useful than direct flock history, because many domestic geese can share white, gray, buff, pied, or saddleback markings.
Responsible stewardship starts with not overstating the name. Keepers should record where Whet geese came from, what traits repeat in offspring, and whether any registry or conservation program recognizes them. Normal goose care still applies: pasture, clean water, dry shelter, winter feed, and breeding groups kept apart from unrelated stock. If the identity cannot be verified, birds should be described transparently as Whet-labeled geese rather than promoted as a fully documented rare breed.
