Yan Goose
The Yan goose is a sparsely documented name for a Chinese domestic goose landrace, and the label may not correspond to a single Western-standardized breed. In breed inventories it is best read as a practical farm goose selected locally for production, within the broad range of Chinese goose types that may show grey, brown, pied, or light plumage. Its importance lies less in exhibition points than in regional ancestry, adaptation, and the way the flock has been maintained.
For keepers, provenance matters. A Yan goose flock should be managed as active domestic geese, with grazing space, clean water deep enough for head washing, shelter, and predator protection. Breeders trying to preserve the line should keep separate mating groups and record where stock came from, because similar-looking geese from nearby regions may be sold under broad Chinese-goose labels. Selection usually centers on fertility, gosling vigor, adult size, and reliable seasonal laying.
