Yong Kang Grey Goose
The Yong Kang grey goose, also written Yongkang gray goose, is a local domestic goose from the Yongkang area of Zhejiang Province in eastern China. It is named for its grey or grey-brown plumage, which helps distinguish it from the white goose lines also found in Zhejiang. The breed belongs to the region's long tradition of small farm goose keeping, with birds used for meat, eggs, feathers, and grazing around ponds, fields, and village holdings.
Because it is uncommon in Western backyard and exhibition markets, identification depends on source flock history more than a show standard. Productive Yong Kang grey geese should have sound legs, good foraging behavior, and enough body depth for table use without becoming heavy and sluggish. Warm, damp summers call for shade, clean water, and dry resting areas, while breeding pens need enough space to prevent overmating and keep eggs clean.
