Zhedong Goose
The Zhedong goose is a Chinese local goose associated with eastern Zhejiang; the name points to the Zhejiang-east region and is often seen in connection with Zhedong white goose lines. It is a domestic farm goose selected under village conditions for meat, eggs, feathers, and efficient grazing in the pond-and-rice landscapes of coastal eastern China. Most descriptions emphasize a white or largely light plumage type, though English names are not always applied consistently across sources.
Zhedong geese should be managed as active waterfowl, with turnout for grazing, clean bathing water, dry bedding, and protection from dogs and nighttime predators. In a preservation flock, known regional ancestry and steady production over the laying season matter as much as white feather color. Buyers should confirm whether birds are being sold as Zhedong, Zhejiang white, or a general Chinese white goose line, because those labels may overlap in informal trade.
