Grandidier's Giant Madagascan Hissing Cockroach
Gromphadorhina grandidieri
Grandidier's giant Madagascan hissing cockroach, usually called the tiger hisser, is a large wingless roach from Madagascar. Adults develop contrasting black, yellow, orange and red coloration, while young roaches remain much darker. Males have raised head shields. Specialist colonies need warmth, humid but well-ventilated retreats, drier substrate areas and varied food.
Females retain their egg cases and release live young. All stages climb, so secure upper enclosure edges are essential. Color varies; the adult male shown has a black forebody and chestnut rear abdomen.
