Gray Four-Eyed Opossum
Philander opossum
This Guianan and northern Brazilian marsupial has gray fur, a dark eye mask and two pale brow spots that suggest an extra pair of eyes. Its largely naked grasping tail helps it climb, although it also forages on the ground. Specialist zoo mammal teams provide secure accommodation with cover, climbing routes and omnivore food. Tiny live-born young develop in the pouch. The current species has a narrower range than older accounts of gray four-eyed opossums.
