Guinea Baboon
Papio papio
The Guinea baboon is a reddish-brown baboon of West Africa, with a long dark muzzle and a fuller mane in adult males. It travels mainly on the ground, rests in trees or on cliffs and eats varied plant foods and some animals. Zoo collections manage social groups with secure outdoor space and shelter. Females give birth to live young. US primate-import restrictions apply. Its rich red coat contrasts with the yellow-brown coat of the yellow baboon.
