Haitian Brown Tarantula
Phormictopus cancerides
The Haitian brown tarantula is a large terrestrial species widely traded as Phormictopus cancerides. Adult females are brown, while mature males may show purple tones. Its accepted range is broader than Haiti, so the hobby name is not evidence of a particular animal's origin.
Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with substantial substrate, a sheltered retreat and drinking water. Offer appropriately sized insects and give it room to molt safely. Preserve breeder records and avoid handling. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
