Purcell's Baboon Tarantula
Harpactira baviana
Purcell's baboon tarantula is a South African species sold under the scientific name Harpactira baviana. Traded animals have subdued dark coloring and contrasting patterns rather than the bright blue and gold of H. pulchripes. Similar baboon spiders are best identified with reliable breeder records rather than a common name alone.
Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated ground-level enclosure with deep substrate for a silk-lined retreat, shelter and drinking water. It eats appropriately sized insects and should be observed without handling. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
