Elizabethfontein Baboon Tarantula
Harpactira marksi
The Elizabethfontein baboon tarantula is a South African species traded as Harpactira marksi. Black and gold tones with highlighted leg joints characterize traded adults, but do not establish identity. Keep the scientific name and breeder records, because related brown baboon spiders may be confused in the hobby.
Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated ground-level enclosure with deep substrate for burrowing, a sheltered silk retreat and drinking water. Offer appropriately sized insects and avoid handling. Like other tarantulas, females lay eggs in a silk sac.
