Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus petersii)
Heterometrus petersii
Heterometrus petersii is securely recorded from Singapore and Penang, Malaysia; its full range remains uncertain. This black forest scorpion has stout claws, a granular carapace and a reddish-brown sting bulb paler than the last tail segment. Many pet-trade animals labeled petersii are other species, and it is difficult to distinguish from H.
spinifer. Specialist keepers need a secure, humid but ventilated enclosure with moisture-holding substrate and retreats. Avoid handling and verify origin. Females bear live young that ride on the mother's back.
