Purple Huntsman Spider
Heteropoda lunula
The purple huntsman spider is a flattened Asian hunter with sideways-held legs. Adult females can have purple femora dotted with pale spots, strongly banded lower legs and a mottled abdomen; color varies with population, sex and light. Specialists provide secure, ventilated climbing space with bark and elevated retreats, access to moisture and suitable insects. Its speed makes maintenance demanding, so avoid handling. Females lay eggs in silk sacs, and captive breeding is documented.
