Aegidienberger
The Aegidienberger is a German gaited horse developed from Icelandic horse and Peruvian Paso influence near Aegidienberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. The goal was a comfortable four-beat riding horse with more size and heat tolerance than a typical Icelandic, while retaining a smooth gait useful for trail and leisure riding. It is a modern breed with a fairly specific development story.
Owners are usually interested in the Aegidienberger for comfortable riding, surefootedness, and manageable size. Training should protect the natural gait rather than forcing movement that creates tension or soreness. Because the breed draws on distinct parent types, breeders watch gait quality, temperament, sound legs, and size balance. Buyers should ask to see the horse ridden at walk, gait, and canter, since comfort and rhythm are central to the breed's appeal.
