Azerbaijan Horse
The Azerbaijan horse, also called the Azerbaijani horse, is a regional saddle and pack horse associated with Azerbaijan and the southern Caucasus. It is not always presented as a single uniform breed; the term may include or overlap with local lines such as Karabakh, Dilbaz, Guba, and Shirvan horses. The traditional type is agile, enduring, and relatively light, suited to mountain paths, open steppe, and long days under saddle. Some lines are noted for golden chestnut or bay coats, though color is less important than soundness and stamina.
Azerbaijan horses have been used for riding, herding, transport, racing, and chovgan, the traditional mounted team game. Practical care depends on whether the horse is kept in a rural herd, a stud farm, or a sport setting, but good feet and sensible conditioning are central because the breed's value comes from usable movement over difficult ground. Conservation-minded breeders try to keep native mares and stallions from being diluted by indiscriminate crossing. Outside Azerbaijan, documentation and import history should be checked carefully.
