Burmese Pony
The Burmese pony is the pony-sized native horse type associated with Myanmar, with many references pointing to the Shan hills and neighboring upland communities. It is usually described as small, tough, and economical to feed, with a compact body, strong legs, and a sensible way of moving over steep or muddy ground. The label can overlap with Shan pony in older breed lists, and local variation is expected because animals were selected mainly for work.
These ponies have been used for pack work, village transport, light riding, and in some areas trekking or hill-country livestock tasks. Care is straightforward horse care scaled to a smaller animal: forage should be appropriate rather than overly rich, tack must fit a short back, and hooves need attention where alternating wet and hard ground causes cracking or thrush. Formal registry information is uncommon, making first-hand inspection and local knowledge important.
