Holsteiner
The Holsteiner is a German warmblood from Schleswig-Holstein, with a long past as a coach, cavalry, and farm horse before becoming a leading modern sport-horse breed. Today it is strongly associated with show jumping, with many lines also suited to eventing and dressage. Holsteiners are typically athletic, powerful, and balanced, often showing a strong hindquarter, scope over fences, and a purposeful canter. The studbook has used selective outside blood while keeping performance central.
For owners, the Holsteiner is usually a serious riding or competition horse rather than a casual backyard type selected by color or size. Soundness, rideability, veterinary history, and training quality matter as much as pedigree. Breeders study mare families, stallion approvals, jumping records, movement, and temperament because the market expects horses that can work under pressure. Young Holsteiners need patient development, correct farriery, and conditioning that builds strength before demanding jumping schedules.
