Narym Pony
The Narym pony is a Siberian regional pony type associated with the Narym area and the forested wetlands of western Siberia. It is usually described as small, hardy, and useful in severe climates where horses had to work through snow, mud, insects, and poor forage. The type belongs among practical northern ponies rather than polished show breeds.
Narym ponies would traditionally be valued for pack, light draft, sled, and local transport work. Modern owners or conservation breeders should focus on the traits that made the type useful: sound feet, dense coat, calm handling, and ability to maintain condition without excessive feed. When moved away from harsh native conditions, these ponies may need careful weight control and regular farrier attention.
