National Show Horse
The National Show Horse is a modern American show horse developed primarily from Arabian and American Saddlebred breeding. It was created for animated saddle-seat and performance work, combining Arabian refinement and stamina with Saddlebred height, neck length, and show-ring motion. Registry rules have changed over time, so permitted ancestry and percentage requirements should be checked with the current breed organization rather than assumed from the name.
National Show Horses are most often managed for show, pleasure, and performance careers where conditioning, shoeing, training, and presentation all matter. Buyers should look for a horse whose movement is natural enough to stay sound, not just dramatic in the ring. Because the breed is performance-focused, good programs pay close attention to mental steadiness, back comfort, turnout, and recovery time between training sessions. A useful horse still needs ordinary soundness and manners.
