Newfoundland Pony

The Newfoundland pony is a Canadian heritage pony from Newfoundland, descended from hardy pony and small horse stock brought from the British Isles. It developed as a farm, hauling, riding, and family utility animal in a cold coastal environment. The breed is compact, strong for its size, sure-footed, and sensible, though individual height, build, and type can vary because the population was shaped by practical island use rather than a single show ideal.

Today the Newfoundland pony is a conservation breed as well as a practical riding and driving pony.
