Priob

The Priob horse, also called Priobskaya in Russian sources, is a native horse or landrace from the Ob River basin of western Siberia. It is associated with forest, marsh, and northern steppe environments where horses had to travel, carry loads, and survive long winters on sparse forage. Descriptions usually emphasize a small to medium frame, deep body, thick winter coat, strong legs, and a plain, serviceable head rather than show-ring refinement.

Priob horses are rare outside their home region and are usually discussed as working and local genetic resources, not a common sport-horse breed. Traditional management may involve extensive herding, winter grazing, and use for riding, packing, sled work, meat, or milk depending on community needs. In private hands they need the same basics as any horse, but rich feed can be unnecessary for such hardy stock. Accurate provenance matters because the name can be applied loosely in old breed lists.
