Tersk Horse
The Tersk Horse is a Russian light riding horse developed at the Tersk Stud after the loss of many older Strelets horses. It combines Arabian, Strelets-derived, Don, Kabardin, and other influences into a refined but practical saddle horse. The breed is often associated with gray coloring, endurance, good movement, and a clean riding outline. It has been used for riding, sport, military purposes, and improving other horse populations.
For owners, the Tersk can suit riders who appreciate Arabian-influenced sensitivity with more size and substance than some desert-bred horses. Training should be consistent and tactful, with fitness developed through steady work rather than sudden intensity. Buyers should confirm documentation, since the breed is uncommon outside its region and can be confused with Arabian or part-Arabian horses. Breeders need to preserve soundness, fertility, and the balanced riding type: light enough for stamina, strong enough for saddle work, and sensible enough for regular handling.
