The Walkaloosa is a gaited spotted horse, commonly understood as an Appaloosa-type horse with a natural intermediate gait. The name is associated with horses that combine leopard-complex coat patterns, such as blanket, leopard, snowflake, or varnish roan, with a smooth four-beat gait such as a running walk, fox trot, or single-foot. Foundation stock may include Appaloosa horses and gaited breeds, so height, body type, and way of going can vary more than in long-established closed breeds.

For owners, the main appeal is a comfortable trail horse with eye-catching color, but the gait should be watched in motion rather than assumed from spots. Pink skin under white-patterned areas may need sun and insect protection, especially on the muzzle and around the eyes. Breeders should understand leopard-complex genetics, including the eye-health concerns associated with some color combinations, while still selecting for sound feet and a usable temperament. Because registration rules vary, buyers benefit from checking eligibility alongside the horse's actual saddle performance.
