Congo Scorpion
Hottentotta hottentotta
Sold as the Congo scorpion, Hottentotta hottentotta is actually a West African species. Adults vary from yellowish to dark brown; reddish forms can show darker lengthwise back markings. The tail is much less hairy than that of female H. franzwerneri. Specialist keepers provide a secure enclosure with substrate, bark refuges, water and a moisture gradient. The trade name is not proof of locality, and this venomous animal should never be handled. Females give birth to live young.
