Hourglass Treefrog
Dendropsophus ebraccatus
This small treefrog inhabits tropical lowlands from southern Mexico through Central America into northwestern Colombia. A brown hourglass-shaped back marking often stands out on a golden-tan body. It is bred by amphibian hobbyists in humid, ventilated planted terrariums with climbing perches and insect prey. Females can lay eggs on vegetation above water or directly in water, and the tadpoles develop in pools. Its compact shape and hourglass marking differ from the long-striped American green treefrog.
