The jaguarundi is a small wild cat of the Americas, with short legs, a long body and tail, rounded ears and an unspotted coat. Gray and reddish morphs occur within the species; the portrait shows the gray morph. Zoo collections provide secure dens and climbing cover, and females bear live young. CITES Appendix I covers Central and North American populations; other populations are in Appendix II. ESA protection covers the listed cacomitli, fossata, panamensis and tolteca forms. It is distinct from domestic cats.
