Japanese Cockroach
Crescispina japonica
The Japanese cockroach is a cold-tolerant species kept by specialist breeders and established in parts of New York City. Males have full wings, while females have shorter wings. Colonies use ventilated housing with sheltered, moist substrate and varied food; warmer conditions encourage continuous development. Females produce egg cases. Secure containment matters for this introduced species. Older references use Periplaneta japonica; the current Species File places it in Crescispina.
