Jumbo Brown

Jumbo Brown Japanese quail are heavy Coturnix japonica selected for larger body size while keeping the pharaoh or wild-type brown plumage pattern. They are common in meat and dual-purpose egg flocks because their darker, speckled coloring allows feather-sexing in many lines: mature males usually show a more solid rusty breast, while females keep darker speckling. The name is a market and breeder term rather than a single closed registry breed, so adult weight and growth rate can differ widely between sources.

These birds benefit from feed and housing planned for a meat-type coturnix, not only a small ornamental quail. Chicks require a high-protein game-bird starter, and fast-growing juveniles should have good footing to reduce leg stress.
