Jumbo White
A Jumbo White Japanese quail is a large-bodied Coturnix japonica selected in a white or English white plumage variety. These quail are often kept as meat or dual-purpose birds because pale feathers leave fewer dark pinfeathers on a dressed carcass, a practical reason white coturnix lines are popular with small producers. Some birds are nearly solid white, while others show small colored spots depending on the line. As with other jumbo quail, the name describes a size selection rather than a universally standardized breed.
Care matches other Japanese quail, but the production goal affects management. Rapid growth calls for a quality game-bird starter, steady access to feed and water, and housing that prevents piling, drafts, and foot injuries. White plumage makes visual sexing by breast color unreliable, so keepers often rely on vent sexing, crowing, egg laying, or marked breeding pens. When buying hatching eggs or breeders, ask about adult weights and selection history; a white bird is not automatically a true jumbo line.
