Jungle Cat
Felis chaus
The jungle cat is a long-legged wild cat of wetlands, reed beds and other cover across parts of Asia and the Middle East. Sandy to gray-brown fur, small ear tufts and a short dark-ringed tail distinguish it from the longer-tailed jaguarundi. It hunts rodents and other small prey and bears live young. Zoo facilities use secure enclosures with sheltered dens. CITES Appendix II regulates international trade, and Florida's Class III captive-wildlife permitting rules apply to this small cat.
