King Baboon Tarantula
Pelinobius muticus
The king baboon tarantula is a large burrowing species from Kenya and Tanzania. Adult females are robust and rust brown, with thick, bowed hind legs; mature males are slimmer. It constructs deep burrows beneath scrub vegetation. Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with substantial diggable substrate, a starter retreat and drinking water. Avoid handling this defensive spider. Females lay eggs in a fixed hammock-like silk sac.
