King Colobus
Colobus polykomos
The king colobus is a West African forest monkey with a black body, white chest and cheek fringe, and an entirely white tail without a terminal tuft. It eats mainly leaves, with fruit and flowers varying by season. Zoo keepers maintain social groups with climbing cover; females give birth to live young. US primate-import restrictions apply. Its reduced thumbs and leaf-adapted stomach are characteristic of colobus monkeys, and its markings differ from the pale-faced, olive-bodied green monkey.
