Taisho Sanke
Taisho Sanke is the full variety name for Sanke, a white-based koi with red hi and black sumi. It is one of the major Gosanke varieties alongside Kohaku and Showa. The visual order matters: white skin provides the ground, red creates the main pattern, and black adds contrast. Traditional Sanke often avoid heavy black on the head, and the sumi generally appears as well-placed body markings rather than wrapping from the belly.
People selecting Taisho Sanke usually compare the quality of all three colors, but they also study spacing. Too little sumi can make the fish read like Kohaku, while too much can crowd the red-and-white pattern. Young Sanke may not show finished black, so age, breeder reputation, and line history can influence buying decisions. In everyday pond care, the variety has no unusual requirements beyond excellent filtration, quarantine, and enough room for growth. Clean white skin is easiest to preserve under stable, low-stress conditions.
