Kokoe Poison Frog
Phyllobates aurotaenia
The Kokoe poison frog inhabits Colombia's Pacific lowland forests and is bred by experienced amphibian hobbyists. The selected wild form has a black body, yellow side stripes and bluish markings on the legs. Keepers provide humid planted enclosures, leaf litter, shelter, small supplemented insects and water for larvae. Females lay eggs on land, and males carry tadpoles to water. Wild frogs carry potent skin toxins; captive-bred animals should not be assumed safe to handle or ingest.
