Sangihe Island Black Tarantula
Lampropelma nigerrimum
The Sangihe island black tarantula is an Indonesian tree-dwelling species recorded from Sulawesi and the Sangihe Islands. Adult females are deep black, while males become lighter brown. It is separate from the Borneo black, now Phormingochilus arboricola, despite older hobby confusion. Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated vertical enclosure with a bark tube or other sheltered climbing retreat, substrate and water. Avoid handling this fast, defensive spider. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
