Laos Warty Newt
Laotriton laoensis
The Laos warty newt lives in cool upland streams and pools in Laos. Three orange-yellow stripes follow ridges along its rough, dark body. It lays eggs on submerged leaves; juveniles spend a land phase before returning to water. Experienced breeders maintain clean, oxygenated water and seasonal conditions, with close attention to young animals. It is in CITES Appendix II with a zero annual quota for wild specimens traded commercially. US injurious-salamander restrictions also apply.
