Hypo
Hypo in leopard geckos refers to reduced dark spotting on the body, often combined with yellow, orange, or tangerine color. In common breeder use, a hypo has fewer body spots than a normal leopard gecko, while super hypo is often used for animals with little or no body spotting. Tail spots, head spots, and color intensity can still vary widely between lines.
Hypo leopard geckos are managed like other leopard geckos, with reliable heat, secure hides, a humid shedding area, calcium support, and appropriately sized insects. The practical breeding issue is consistency: hypo expression is often line-bred and can be influenced by the other morphs present. Buyers should look at adult examples and parent photos, because juvenile spotting can change significantly as the gecko grows.
