Linnaeus's Mouse Opossum
Marmosa murina
Linnaeus's mouse opossum is a small South American marsupial with large ears, a dark eye mask and a mostly bare grasping tail. Unlike the gray four-eyed opossum, it lacks the paired pale spots above the eyes. Specialist zoo collections house it with climbing branches, nesting retreats and quiet daytime shelter. Females bear live young that remain attached to the teats; there is no fully enclosed pouch. Its current range includes the Guianas, Venezuela and parts of Brazil.
