Lobster Cockroach
Nauphoeta cinerea
The lobster cockroach is a widely cultured feeder and research roach. Adults are soft-bodied, and females can produce large litters of live young, allowing colonies to grow quickly in warm conditions. Captive colonies use dry shelters above a moist retreat, ventilation and varied food. A secure enclosure matters even though adults cannot fly: this species can climb smooth surfaces. It is smaller than the large cinereous cockroach, which is sometimes called the giant lobster roach.
