Mantella ebenaui
Mantella ebenaui
This mantella inhabits lowland parts of northern Madagascar. A tan-copper back, sometimes with a pale X, contrasts with black sides and gray, dark-marbled limbs. Specialist hobbyists keep it in humid terrariums with hiding cover, shallow clean water and small live insects. It lays eggs and produces aquatic tadpoles. Older trade records often called it Mantella betsileo, but current taxonomy separates the two species; that older identification should not be treated as a synonym.
