Mauritian Zebra-Faced Roach
Anallacta methanoides
The Mauritian zebra-faced roach is a small, fast-moving cockroach from Mauritius. Adults have contrasting black-and-white facial stripes, while the young develop dark maroon coloring after a molt. Specialist colonies use warm, well-ventilated housing with bark and leaf shelters, varied food and access to moisture. Females lay long, rigid egg cases. All stages climb, and tiny young can escape through surprisingly small openings, so fine ventilation mesh and a secure lid are important.
