Chinese Golden Earth Tiger Tarantula

The Chinese golden earth tiger is a burrowing tarantula from China and Vietnam. Hobby animals range from golden brown to darker brown, with the gold form showing a pale golden carapace and yellowish hairs over the legs. Color forms do not establish a species identification. Formerly sold as Haplopelma schmidti or Ornithoctonus huwena, it is kept by experienced hobbyists in secure enclosures with deep substrate, a burrow retreat and water. Avoid handling this fast, defensive spider. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
