Vietnam Black Tarantula
Melopoeus vonwirthi
The Vietnam black tarantula is the hobby name for Melopoeus vonwirthi, whose exact native country remains uncertain between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Adult females sold under this name are velvety black, especially after a molt. Similar dark Asian burrowing tarantulas need expert identification, not just a color match. Experienced keepers use a secure, ventilated enclosure with deep substrate, a burrow and water. It is fast and defensive, so avoid handling. Females produce silk egg sacs.
